Both the wired and wireless are working with no trouble. But I would never had gotten it to work if I didn't already know that I was supposed to use the PPPoE setting to connect (which most people don't, because honestly, who wants to spend valuable time learning the intricacies of computer networking). And setting up wireless was just as complicated. I've been using it for a week or two and there are no problems at all. I have AT&T Yahoo internet service, and this D-Link modem and router combo works great for me. I got it working, but a lot of people wouldn't have been able to. I clicked around until I found a spot to enter my username and password from AT&T and then it connected.
The auto-connect feature just plain didn't work.
That's just the way it should be.
I got it set up, but again, only because I'm a computer geek who knows the difference between WPA and WPA-PSK and which one to use.
It replaced my old 2wire unit that finally gave up the ghost.Pros:It works.
I've configured wireless routers before, but this D-Link setup interface threw me for a loop.
It runs pretty warm but not hot, like some reviewers have mentioned.Cons:The web-based setup interface is abysmal.
I'm a software developer, and I had trouble figuring it out.
(It's WPA-PSK, if you're wondering). So I'm 100% satisfied with the hardware, but pretty disappointed with the ease of setup.
I would not recommend the D-Link DSL-2460b to my friends or family, but I would probably recommend it to my co-workers who are computer programmers.
I bought this modem because the one provided by my ISP was a cheap chinese ADSL router that would disconnect every 24 hours or so, so I had to reset it so it could work again.Since i switched to this modem I've had a solid and constant connection, it has plenty of features, I flashed my firmware with the UK version which looks way better and has more features and works great. One thing I don't like about this unit is that it does run pretty hot. Other than that its good.
Definitely, wasn't worth the price to me. For the average home user, anything but the very basic setup would be difficult because many advanced features are poorly documented by D-Link, or not documented at all.The transmitter range is not good at all, at least with the stock antenna.
So, this one i think is just poorly designed. In general, i like D-Link stuff; have a DI-524 that has worked extremely reliably for years.
The only reason i gave it 3-star for Ease of Setup is because i am a former IT tech. It failed after almost exactly 18 months in service. It was, probably, due to overheating, which this model seems to do by design.
Out of the box, it worked ok on a Verizon line, but would go off-line and require a reboot periodically. If you have solid walls other than particle board, it won't even cover a large (3-bedroom) apartment well.BTW, doesn't the case on this look like a storage box for an old hair-clipper with an antenna and lights on it.It's nice to have a modem, a router, and a wireless AP in the same unit, but i wouldn't buy it again due to poor durability, reliability, and transceiver performance.
Trying the Actiontec unit next.Have fun, fellow babies.
Bought this router and modem combo to replace a Westell 327W from bellsouth/att. But if your a person who is not tech savy this is not the product for you. I have also seen no lag in my XBox since the addition of the router this is something I have never experienced.
Although the download speeds were up. I was suprised to see that both had suprisingly well spoken customer service. Initially bought the product without the optional 7dbi antenna, the signal range was no better that the Westell if not worst.
Installation however is another story, I was expecting this though after a couple of calls to my ISP and d-link I was fine. I then purchased the &dbi antenna and my wireless internet is faster than it has ever been and signal is excellent throughout the house. The Antenna I feel is a must if you have a large house.
It was well worth the hour or two that I spent though. You would be better off spending the extra money on one your ISP provides.Overall though best bang for your buck if your willing to deal with the install.
Set up was not very clear in the written instructions, and I wound up having to call in for some assistance over the phone. I have had products that installed easier I would say. However, it has been very stable and offered wonderful service now that it is running, so I can't complain too much at all. Definately a good product.
